Heart of Gold
Although similar in form, these tracks are not Indian ragas or in a style of Indian classical music. Cheneour has said: “all my own recording work is done spontaneously, I’m not trying to copy anyone, just being authentic to myself. The music and performance is always in a state of flux, and responding to the moment like the Japanese calligraphy art Shodo or Direct Deed.”
Nine contrasting tracks offer a generous concert of improvised music, and there is a third element of ambient studio drone, which provides a shifting subtle tonal anchor to support the modal and harmonic changes. This background, like a shifting musical rainbow, underpins the hand percussion and flutes.
Dilly Meah, on tabla, is an amazing, and constantly inventive rhythmic partner for Paul. Sometimes he shapes the music by playing more, other-times by playing less. Paul and Dilly mesh beautifully, supporting and inspiring each other, and creating music for the creative listener to treasure.
